History:
Mr. G.A.Goosen (grand father) established a company by the name of Betsan Engineering in 1956 and within 10 years it grew from a general engineering workshop into one of the largest single owned company's involved with the manufacture of specialized engineering projects. In later years a company in London acquired a controlling interest in Betsan and consolidated the company into Elliot Machine Tools Manufacturing Company of South Africa (PTY) ltd. The company specialized in the manufacturing of guillotines, press brakes, band saws, mills and center lathes .Sizes varied and culminated in the largest machine weighing 17 tons. Mr G.A. Goosen became the chairman of the South African Machine Tool Manufacturers Association. His two sons Pieter Goosen and Jan Goosen did there artisanship under the care and mentorship of there father, and started there own company by the name of Betnol Manufacturing (Pty) Ltd. in early 1960’s where they became one off the largest manufacturers of underground machinary and various other engineering product’s. In 1979 Mr. Jan Goosen and Mr. Pieter Goosen established Ambit Engineering, where Mr. Jan Goosen was involved on the technical part of the organization and Mr. Pieter Goosen on the financial side of the business.
In the late 1980’s Mr. Jan Goosen two sons Mark and Arnold Goosen joined the company and were mentored under the supervision of Jan and Pieter Goosen. Mark Goosen completed his training as an artisan and Arnold Goosen started his studies’ as an Industrial Engineer but later on received a diploma as Production manager. In 1996 the company had a directorship change whereby Arnold and Mark Goosen were appointed as the new directors .
Ambit Engineering was located in Germiston (industries east) for 30 years and moved there works to Wadeville at the end of 2008. The company is a well established company in the medium to heavy engineering and has made its mark in the engineering field, with winning the Engineering award of the year in 2002 in co operation with Hearn Manufacturing.
